Basic manual tasks such as grass raking, weeding, cleaning out path gutters – there's no end to the tasks that need completed around Bonorong!

You can volunteer as little or as much time, and are welcome to come by yourself or with a team of friends (or work colleagues!)

If you have your own whipper snipper and would like to help us keep the grass down in and around the Sanctuary, we’d like to hear from you too!

Please note there is no involvement with animals apart from our free-roaming kangaroos.

Whether you would like to volunteer as a group for team building, for corporate social responsibility etc, Bonorong is happy to accept groups of volunteers to help with gardening or garden maintenance jobs.

If you are interested in learning about animal husbandry and are looking for a long term volunteering opportunity without achieving a certification, we may have an opportunity available.

To apply for a Volunteer Keeper position, you must satisfy the following criteria:

You need to be able to volunteer for a minimum of 1 day per week for a minimum of 3 months 

You must have your own car/transport

You need to have your own accommodation

You must be over 18

Please note that these positions are extremely limited and we are firm on the criteria. We can also provide a volunteering reference for candidates that stay the full 3 months.

If you are an electrician, carpenter, excavator operator, plumber... basically anything in a specific trade and you'd like to lend your skills -- we'd love to chat to you! 

As we are constantly expanding the Sanctuary and adding new buildings and enclosures, we almost always have a need for someone with a particular skill!

General handyman skills are also welcome.

We're always looking for volunteers for our wildlife rescue program! Once trained and registered, you'll receive messages about wildlife in need in your area.

If you have time, you can respond to the message and help out. If not - you can simply ignore the message. This gives you the flexibility to volunteer when you can.

Our new wildlife hospital, which is part of Bonorong's flagship 'Project RECAP' and has been designed to significantly increase our capacity to treat injured and orphaned wildlife.  The new building will be home to those involved in the rescue, treatment, rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife, but it also creates a range of new and exciting opportunities for volunteers looking to make a direct contribution to the health and wellbeing of our precious wildlife.

Hospital Volunteers will play a key supporting role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the wildlife hospital, working under the direction of our vets and vet nurses to support clinical operations.  Common tasks will include cleaning and disinfection, maintaining a safe and tidy workspace, assisting the duty nurse to prepare for medical procedures and administrative tasks including the maintenance of detailed patient records.

Volunteers with experience in frontline or allied healthcare - either animal or human - are encouraged to apply as we maintain very high standards in hygiene and infection control and prior experience would be an advantage.  Applicants must be comfortable working in a busy, emergency medicine environment which is also permanently on display to the general public.

Students of veterinary medicine or veterinary nursing are welcome to apply, but should note that this opportunity will not provide you with the learning or hands-on experience that is typically associated with a clinical placement and does not constitute a pathway to a career in the animal care industry.

Are you a confident public speaker who loves both people and animals?

We’d like to hear from you! We are gathering expressions of interest for a future volunteer tour guide program.

Please note there is a training period required for this role.

Do you love talking to people? This could be the volunteer role for you!

You’ll be helping greet and serve guests in our gift shop as well as restocking and keeping the shop clean and tidy.

Retail experience beneficial but not required.

This volunteering option is ideal for support organisations or people who would like to volunteer at Bonorong with their support worker.

Tasks involved are generally related to general garden maintenance. There is no direct contact with animals. Volunteer slots typically run for about 3 hours.
